How to Take Care of Your Toys
Keeping your toys clean and caring for them properly will make them last longer and will help to protect your health. Here are our tips for taking care of your sex toys.
1. Buy the best quality material you can. 100% silicone, pyrex glass. stainless steel and ABS plastic are the best choices. These materials are all either non-porous or have extremely small pores. This means that dirt will not seep into the inside of your toy.
2. If you have a toy made of any other material, clean it carefully and thoroughly before and after every use. If the shape of the toy allows, putting a condom overtop of it during every use will keep it much cleaner.
3. Wash your toys thoroughly with a toy cleaner or gentle soap like ivory or a dish washing soap. Be sure to get the soap into any ridges or divots in the toy. Rinse it carefully with warm water, making sure there's no soap left on the toy. If the toy is not waterproof, be careful to keep the battery components away from the water.
4. If your toy is 100% silicone and does not have electrical components in it, you can boil it for 5 minutes or run it through your dishwasher. It's a good idea to rinse toys after they come out of the dishwasher as dishwashing soap doesn't always rinse clean and is harsh on the body if left behind on your toys. Don't use a rinse agent in your dishwasher - that might cling to your toys.
5. Leave toys to airdry or dry them with a clean lint-free cloth. Remember that most dishtowels will leave lint and dirt behind on the surface of the toy.
6. Store your toys in a lint free bag or a box, to keep them away from dirt and dust, and to protect them from anything that might scratch or tear the casings.
7. Don't use bleach on your toys. Bleach is not necessarily an effective killer of many viruses and bacteria and it is very harsh on toys.
8. You can use wet wipes or toy wipes to wipe off your toys immediately after you use them, but do make sure that you actually wash them before you use them again.
9. Don't use toy sanitizing products that are meant to be rubbed into your toys and left on. Sex toys need to be washed with soap and water.
10. For soft elastomer and rubber toys like the fleshlight, wash them carefully after every use. If they feel sticky, a small coating of cornstarch will help. This should be done only for toys that will not be used internally. These toys should never be shared and should be discarded if they start to appear to have absorbed dirt. Using condoms with them will help them to last longer.
