Reminder: Don't Get Your Sexual Health Info from Cosmo

Thursday July 6, 2017

i found this little nugget in one of my newsfeeds today, forwarded from Cosmo Magazine's website.  "12 Anal Foreplay Tips for Beginners".  In my never-ending quest to correct sexual health misinformation everywhere, I thought I should take this one on.

Admittedly, Cosmo seems to be stepping up its game on the sex stuff.  I haven't seen as much horrible advice coming from them as I used to and occasionally now I see them being very inclusive of all genders and sexual preferences which used to never be the case.  This article is not an example of that.

Your Vagina is not a Disco Party - Please Don't Put That Up There: Part Five

Wednesday July 5, 2017

if you get glitter in your yoni, it will be there until the day you die.

My question is why????  Why would you want to do this?  The site says that "The flavor is sweet like candy but not overly sweet, just enough to make your lover feel that your Yara (water-lady or little butterfly) is what all vaginas are supposed to look, feel and taste like; soft, sweet and magical!"

Lying about Lube

Monday May 22, 2017

I know you’re probably getting sick of me picking apart Gwyneth Paltrow’s site, Goop, but I just have to do it again. I was reading some information today about lubricants and that led me back to Gwyneth and her terrible page on the topic. Lubes are something that people get very confused about because there’s a lot of really bad information floating around out there. I thought it was important to clarify some of the things on this page, which is, sadly, filled with lies. It’s a question and answer with Dr. Maggie Ney who is not a medical doctor but rather a naturopathic doctor. She claims to be an expert in hormones but she sure doesn’t know anything about lube. Here’s are the blatant lies in this piece.

Lie #1 – The FDA does not regulate what goes into lubes

Thinking You Are Addicted to Porn is Far More Damaging than Porn Itself

Saturday May 20, 2017
Last week, I read this article by David Ley, that had me almost jumping out of my chair for joy.  It seems that finally somebody decided to study not the harm that pornography addiction causes, but the harm that thinking you are addicted to pornography causes.

'Hot Girls Wanted:Turned On" Turned Me Off

Tuesday May 9, 2017

I saw the documentary  Hot Girls Wanted when it came to Netflix about a year ago. I do believe that there are lot of very troublesome and concerning things that happen in some sectors of the porn industry and I think it would be interesting to make a documentary that actually looks at that honestly and offers some insight and options for action.  Hot Girls Wanted is not that documentary.  It is extremely sex negative.  It makes sweeping generalizations about porn after speaking to only one small group involved in creating extremely misogynistic content for just a couple of producers.

So when I heard that Netflix had made a series out of the doc, I had no interest in watching it.  That was, until I started reading criticism from people who had been featured in the documentary.
