Sexy play for the Eco-minded

Great sex doesn't need to hurt the environment, even with accessories! Sex toys and product companies have recently begun paying attention to their consumer's earth-friendly attitudes and developing new toys and products with a smaller carbon footprint. There are also more than more products on the market that are safe for our vegan-minded friends and those who don't use products tested on animals. Here are some great tips for how to explore and enjoy sexual play while having less of an impact on the planet.

  1. Stick to rechargeable vibes. Vibrators with an internal battery that can be recharged result in less battery waste and fewer harmful battery chemicals leeching into our landfills when not recycled properly. They are usually slightly more expensive than the type of vibe that require battery changes, but you'll save money on batteries in the long run anyway.
  2. Stick to non-toxic toys. Toys that don't leave a harmful residue on you won't leave a harmful residue on our planet. Avoid toys that do or may contain pthalates. The Traveling Tickle Trunk, and lots of other reputable sex-positive sex boutiques, are dedicated to ensuring that all toys carried are non-toxic. If you aren't sure whether a toy you own may contain toxic chemicals call or come down to the store and our staff will be happy to help you find out.
  3. Recycle your old or broken toys. Many sex toys, especially vibrators, contain useful parts that can be used again after the toy is broken down and those parts are salvaged. We will take old vibrators at the store if they are brought to us freshly cleaned and sealed in a plastic bag. We send them to a special company in the US dedicated to recycling old sex toys.
  4. Choose the right lubes for your ethical lifestyle. There are an increasing number of personal lubricant brands that are producing totall vegan, glycerin-free and paraben-free products that aren't tested on animals. These lubes are safe for you, your partner(s) and all of our animal friends.
